Amelia Turns 4!

Happy Birthday Amelia!!!

Amelia had a great day. She helped me make chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles for her class last night. Her entire class sang Happy Birthday to her. This morning she opened up one present before school and it was her very first barbie. You can see her in the above pictures. On the way home, she got a birthday shout out on the radio. That was a big surprise! Then she opened the rest of her presents, ate her requested mac&cheese dinner, and played with all of her new stuff until bedtime. I'd say she had a pretty spectacular birthday.

We can not believe Amelia is already 4. We were talking about it last night and thought the first two years went a lot slower than these last two. She's definitely a kid and not a toddler anymore. Her vocabulary is huge, she can count to at least 60, she's started reading simple words (if she's in the mood), and LOVES dance class.

Things Amelia loves: Books, Bubbles, Fruit Snacks, Nutella toast, Disney's Frozen, Watching fishing shows on Daddy's lap, Tornadoes, Dolls, Playing Mommy, Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Craft projects, Sunday School, Music, Rainbows.

Amelia is still the sweetest kid I've ever met. She really cares about other people's feelings. She's whip smart and amazes us with all of the things that she knows. She is also really funny. Our whole family loves being silly together and no time is better for that than bedtime. We are very lucky to have such a great kid for a daughter!

Amelia's Dance Recital (Video)

Amelia did fantastic at her dance recital on Saturday. I thought her class had some pretty cute costumes. Amelia was a big fan of the fringe and the feather in her hair! I'll try to get some pictures uploaded soon. In the meantime, enjoy the video from her rehearsal. Amelia is the one on the left.

A Piece of the Past

When my Mom was going through some of my grandparent's things she found some patterns from when my grandma was a little girl. One of them was in Amelia's size, so we thought it would be fun to try it out.

Here's the dress created with the original pattern. The only change I did was to lengthen it about 2".

Slightly sack like? I guess that was the style back then. Not a good look for Amelia.
Here's my attempts at making it fit a little better.

It's a little better. Definitely wearable, but I don't think I'll be using this pattern again. It was still a fun little exercise.

Amelia the Farmer

Also, since I seem to be so terrible at updating the blog lately, follow me on instagram. I'm @hansenmary
It's a little easier to take more photos since I usually have my phone on me, but not my camera.

Finally, an update.......

WITH SCHOOL PICTURES!!!!
(aka mini glamour shots)

We own the files for these pictures so let me know if you want me to email you a particular one. That way you can get it printed in whatever size you want. We do have lots of wallet sizes that we'll try to mail or handout in the near future.

Christmas Concert!

Here is video I took of Amelia's Christmas concert. It was, um, interesting? Amelia is in the back towards the right. Pink hat and scarf. You can't hear her, but if you look closely, you'll be able to tell that she was actually singing with the song. Unlike most of the kids by the microphone. She practiced for weeks and did a great job. You may want to turn down your volume before watching.

Super Amelia!

The boys in Amelia's class at school are really into superheros. She asks us if different ones wear capes. So, I made her a cape with some leftover fabric. She loves it! I believe the stance she is taking in the second photo is Iron Man. She said she was a red guy and red guys are good. Then she stuck her hand out towards Rob, who was a bad gray guy.

Off to save the day!

Long Lashes

Just a random photo I took of Amelia. She is such a sweet girl.

Thanksgiving Crafts

On Sunday, Amelia and I worked on some Thanksgiving turkey crafts. The first was a toilet paper roll turkey. Amelia traced her hand and even cut out one of them. You'll notice it is the blue feathers near the front left of the turkey.

The following is a more typical turkey craft. The handprint turkey glued over feathers. Again, Amelia cut out some of the feathers and traced her own hand. She also glued everything on by herself.

Take a closer look at the bottom left hand corner. Look what Amelia can do! Pretty impressive for a 3 1/4 year old, right? Kid genius.

Halloween Cupcake

That title is a trick. Amelia did help me make cupcakes for her Halloween party and she is eating one in this picture. That isn't what this post is about. It's another look what I made for Amelia post.

The hoodie version of the Bimaa sweater and another pair of Oliver + S after school pants. I need to take a back view so the cute ruffle-y back pockets can be seen.
